Today I heard I was selected as a top 21 best newborn photographer in Columbus, Ohio. I also ranked as a top 10 family portrait photographer.
Wow. This is really, really cool.
When I launched this business a year and a half ago, something like this felt a very distant dream. To say I’m honored is an understatement. To say I’m excited feels lacking. I’m so proud to be selected in these listings among some really seriously talented photographers.
From day one, I wanted this business to be more than just something you check off your to-do list for your annual Christmas card photos. The first years of a child’s life are incredible and hard and life changing. I wanted my clients to feel special, beautiful, loved, and important, because they ARE. So often in the messiness motherhood we push aside anything but the love and needs of the child and forget how AMAZING we are and what we are building.
CS Lewis said “Children are not a distraction from more important work. They are the most important work.” I believe that down to my core and there is nothing more fulfilling or honorable than preserving that journey through photographs. My hope is that each and every family I serve feels how special and magnificent they really are.
That’s why I’m in regular contact with all my clients. I want to learn who they are, what they want to remember, and I want them to feel confident and prepared going into their session. That’s why everyone receives a small gift to say “thank you for allowing me to view this special part of who you are”. It’s an honor, and I’ll never forget that. That’s why I have carefully selected a luxury wardrobe for all different sizes and shapes and lovely children’s clothing to match. I even have shirts for dad, so that there is literally nothing you have to worry yourself over prior to your session.
Children are wild and wonderful and rarely are “picture perfect”, but that’s what makes the perfect photograph to me. Every newborn already has their own personality, it’s amazing, but even at under two weeks you can sense the beginning of who they are. As they grow, that only blossoms, and I try to grab that realness of who they are, and who you are, in a magically beautiful way.
