My heart goes out to this beautiful country that is suffering so much right now. Italy is one of my favorite places in the world, it’s part of my heritage (maiden name Baldetti), and I just pray this pandemic passes soon and they get some relief. I debated sharing, it felt selfish honestly, but then I decided that I wanted to share something about this country that is outside of the current situation and remind everyone of life beyond it. So, here it is:

After leaving Oxford, we jetted off to Italy for a ten day vacation before heading back to the US. We flew into Milan and then drove up to Lake Como. We got in super late and did those roads at night, which I do not recommend unless you love harrowing, narrow, curvy roads in complete darkness.

However, Lake Como took our breaths away. It was so so beautiful it was like out of a fairytale. Huge towering mountains surrounded an emerald and sapphire colored lake so clear you could see to the bottom for a long time. Old homes dotted the sides in colors of burnt yellows, oranges, and pinks. Honestly, it might have been the most romantic place we went to. We rented a little air bnb that was right on the water in Limonta, so of course we had to first go for a swim. It was cold, and Rory had mixed feelings about it, but for the bucket list we had to. Limonta was quiet and had the most beautiful views I’ve seen in Italy and right up the street was an amazing bakery with the BEST croissants and pastries. They do not speak much English though, so be prepared.

The next two days we ran off to Bellagio, Varenna, and Tremezzo to explore the infamous gardens and mansions along the Lake Como shores. It was I think may absolute favorite part of the trip. Villa Carlotta was pink, and somehow still gorgeous (not like a pink where you raise your eyebrows at). Rory loved wandering around the gardens and loved the lemon granita’s we ended up buying several of even more.
