Where you take your pictures can have a huge impact on the end result and style of your images. I primarily hold my sessions in two main locations for a couple of reasons.
- Consistency: My clients see a specific look and feel on my portfolio. When they book with me they have a reasonable expectation of what they think their images can look like. These locations have been carefully selected to achieve that look and feel. They’ve been vetted for provided the light I love to shoot in and the magical atmosphere I like to create in my imagery.
- Experience: I’ve designed my studio with young families in mind. I have lots of seating for tired and nursing mommas. Water and snacks are available in case someone gets a little hangry (looking at you my toddlers). Small toys for busy hands help keep children happy. The lighting is soft and flattering with a huge window illuminating my subjects. My field locations are easy to walk to and provide ample opportunities for busy minds to explore. Play is always encouraged and never inhibited by crowds.
- Efficiency: I know these locations in and out. There is no searching for the right spot or competing for the view. This creates an efficient workflow that reduces your session time and any lag time between changing poses or views. I know moms with busy little families have a small window of agreeability from children and this helps keep this running super smoothly.
It’s important to think of the look and feel you want from your session, as well as the logistics. For example, newborn sessions are always held in studio (winters in Columbus just do not make for a successful outdoor newborn shoot). Each location I shoot at is beautiful, but has strengths over the other depending on your preferences.
The Studio
The studio is perfect for intimate moments and simple connection. My bright white walls with natural light filtering through soft curtains creates an airy and romantic setting that quickly focuses all attention on my subjects. Details shine, eyes twinkle, and enduring classic portraits are easily achieved.
The Field
The field creates beautifully whimsical portraits soaked in sunset light. The mix between the environment and your family’s natural interactions within it shine. Images at the field are permeating with magical color and honest connection encouraged by gentle prompting and play.
